Port Arthur · Tasman Peninsula

An old inn at the edge of the world.

A warm fire, a rustic dining room, and quiet rooms set amongst the bushland — minutes from the Port Arthur Historic Site, the wild Tasman coast, and the slow, beautiful pace of southern Tasmania.

Welcome

A quiet place to come back to, after a day on the peninsula.

The Fox & Hounds is a heritage inn with a real fireplace, a long timber bar, and rooms that look out across bushland and bay. We are a five-minute drive from the Port Arthur Historic Site, a short walk to Stingaree Bay, and within easy reach of Remarkable Cave, the Tessellated Pavement, and the cliffs of Cape Raoul.

Come for a night. Come for a long weekend. Come for a quiet meal in front of the fire. We’ll keep a room ready.

The Place

At the edge of the Tasman Peninsula.

The Fox & Hounds sits where the Tasman Highway begins to slow down — past the long stretch of Eaglehawk Neck, through the bush, and into the quiet pocket of Port Arthur. Step outside the front door and you’re a short drive from the convict ruins, the cliffs at Cape Raoul, the long sand of Crescent Bay, and the deep water at Fortescue.

It’s a corner of Tasmania where the air smells of salt and eucalyptus, where wallabies show up at dusk, and where the night sky still does what it’s meant to do.
